LOLOLOLOL

Social media is an incredible tool and can be an amazing way to market your brand/business online, for free.

However, it’s not the ONLY way to market your products/services/offerings/content online!

It’s way too easy for people to get sucked in the social media vortex and I”m here to remind you that it’s not your only option, and in fact, there might be better options available that you haven’t considered seriously yet… like Squarespace SEO!

This video tutorial shows a demo website using Squarespace version 7.1. The process is pretty much the same if your website is on Squarespace version 7.0, don’t worry!

Your website is the “home” of your brand/business online

Odds are that if you’re reading this, you have a Squarespace website for your brand/business/online shop/content.

It’s your “home” online - where you highlight all of your product, services, offerings and content and it’s where you direct your audience to learn more about you.

If you want to sell products, you do it on your website. If you want to book out your services, you do that through your website. If you want to sell tickets to an event, you do it on your website. If you’re a content creator/blogger, that’s all through your website as well (in addition to what you do on other platforms).

Most people’s goal is to get more eyes on their website because greater online visibility means a better business, generally speaking.

A lot of people think that online marketing and driving people to their website is done through social media, and yes that’s ONE way to do it but it’s no the only way.

in person vs online marketing

Begin by thinking about your offerings. This could be products you sell, services you offer, an event that you host, content that you create, whatever.

Now, think high level at how you can market that.

On one hand, there’s in-person marketing. This includes:

  • hanging up posters around your neighbourhood

  • door to door sales (literally going house to house and knocking on doors)

  • passing out flyers

  • taking out an add in your local newspaper

  • giving out samples of your product at a market or trade show

  • ETC

There’s also online marketing strategies which can include:

  • social media (posting on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook, Youtube, Snapchatetc.)

  • SEO

  • paid ads

  • affiliate programs

  • content creation & blogging

  • ETC.

Both have their place, but today we’re going to focus on online marketing because that’s most closely linked to our goal of driving more traffic to our website and growing our audience online to reach more clients & customers.

First off : no shade to social media

Let me begin by saying that I think that social media is an INCREDIBLE tool!

It works extremely well for all types of creators, brands and businesses - in fact, many people are able to use social media exclusively as the only way they communicate with and reach their audience online.

Some people absolutely slayyyyyyy social media, whether it’s on TikTok or Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, whatever.

I am not saying that social media sucks!

What I am saying, however, is that social media is NOT the only only marketing strategy out there.

It can work really well for certain people, but if it’s not your jam that’s fine - there are alternatives you can explore that might be more up your alley.

Social media isn’t the only way you can get in front of more of your dream clients and target customers, and it’s not the only way to build and maintain an audience online.

You might enjoy social media personally, and that’s rad! But if you don’t want to use it professionally that’s also rad haha

relax, My business isn’t really on social media!

My Squarespace SEO business isn’t really on social media yet I’ve still managed to build a business that I’m really proud of :)

Social media just isn’t something I enjoy personally, so trying to make that a pillar of my online marketing strategy for my business just wasn’t going to be enjoyable or sustainable.

While some people find social media creative and FUN, I personally do not haha so I actively decided not to focus my marketing efforts on a strategy I didn’t enjoy.

I knew I still wanted to grow my business and reach more of my potential clients and customers online, DUHHHH, which is why I really leaned into content creation here on the blog and over on my Youtube channel instead, then nurtured my audience through email marketing instead.

I use those platforms as a way to reach more people online (through online searches either through Google or Youtube search engines), and then people can learn more about me & my offerings, decide to work with me or buy from me, or if they need a litlle more time that’s fine because often they join my email newsletter list by opt-ing in for a freebie.

who seo is good for?

Squarespace SEO is a marketing strategy that legit everyone should consider but I’d say that it’s especially valuable for people who don’t want to spend all their time on social media creating aesthetic graphics or short form video content.

It’s also great for people who prefer writing, doing outreach to other people/websites or doing behind the scenes work!

Focus on good SEO for blog posts & services pages

If you watch the video that goes along with this blog post, you’ll see that I highlight the importance of good SEO on your services & product pages (aka the money makers) and in blog posts because those posts usually link back to your product/services pages.

I recommend that you really lean into long form content here - no 500 word blog posts, that’s not going to cut it or make Google happy!

Instead, think about including all the information someone needs in order to make a purchasing decision about your product, or to inquire about your service.

Long form content helps make your page/post more competitive in Google’s eyes, which means that' it’s more likely to show up higher in online search results (and get more traffic & reach more people).

Do a solid mix of text, images, internal & external links and focus on all other on-site SEO factors.

Really tell people in your blog posts in the intro & conclusions who you are and what you do/services you offer because remember they might not have seen any other places on your website yet - this is their first interaction with you so point them in the right direction!

SEO works around the clock so you can still satisfy someone’s online search at any time of day through your content, love that.

Final Thoughts

Social media is awesome and literally billions of people around the world use and love it!

But, if it’s not your thing that’s OK - you can still market your brand/business online in other ways beyond social media - it’s not your only option.

Squarespace SEO is a wonderful alternative, it’s what I use in my own business and am thrilled with how it’s working out for me so far.

Yes I’m biased, but hopefully this is reassuring and gives you the encouragement & confidence you need to explore Squarespace SEO if you haven’t already.

Yours in SEO,

Charlotte xo
