Here's how Sarah pitched and booked thousands of dollars of her web design services with just 1 email!
With just 1 email, Sarah pitch & booked $1000+ of her web design services
GATHER ROUND HUNNIS because I’m back with another humble brag here - can’t help but share my customers’ wins! With news this good, do you really think I’d keep it to myself? LOL not a chance, I’ve got to share it :)
If you’ve been following this space or keeping up with me on Instagram, you might remember that I recently launched Pitching your Web Design & Development Services. It’s a digital product that teaches web designers & developers how to pitch their services through a 22-page How-To Guide, customizable email templates, and a tracker spreadsheet to organize their pitch process.
It’s been flying of the figurative shelves since then and I have been THRILLED to hear all the (seriously impressive) results that are already rolling in! Nothing makes me happier than people purchasing my products and getting fantastic results from them. I work very hard to create high quality, useful resources for my audience (through both free and paid content) and when this particular email landed in my inbox, I nearly fell off my chair with excitement.
I previously shared Mariana’s story about how she pitched & booked $6700 worth of her services in just 4 days (so impressive - seriously, go check out that blog post if you haven’t already).
But the wins don’t stop there - another one of my clients, Sarah, also had amazing results using my Pitching Guide so I’m going to share that story with you too!
So, let’s all take a moment to congratulate Sarah and celebrate her story because her results are so impressive and I’m bursting with pride! If she can do it, so can you.
Alright, let me set the stage and fill you in on how it all went down.
Meet Sarah, the babe who pitched & booked her web design services with just 1 email!
Introduction time: internet, meet Sarah.
Sarah Braun runs her own creative studio where she offers Squarespace web design and support services. She predominantly works with healers, creatives and change-makers.
A few weeks ago, Sarah purchased my Pitching your Web Design & Development Services Guide and OMG, her results are already so impressive!
Here’s what Sarah’s process looked like:
She bought the Pitching your Web Design & Development Services Guide
She researched and identified her ideal clients in her target industry/niche
She sent out her pitches
SHE BOOKED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF NEW BUSINESS WITHIN DAYS!
Sarah invested in herself, learned a new marketing strategy, and grew her business.
Sarah booked out her web design services with DREAMY clients with just 1 email, with an investment that was less than $100 - my Pitching your Web Design & Development Services Guide.
When I heard about Sarah’s results, I knew I had to share her process and story with you so here’s a fun Q&A we did together so you can learn more about how it all happened!
Q. Have you ever pitched your services before?
When I first started freelancing, I began in the copywriting world. My very first experience with getting clients was via pitching. I didn’t do it very well at first, but I learned how to do it better over time.
But I haven’t been great at pitching or get major results until I worked with Charlotte’s guide & templates - it helped me put all the pieces together in a streamlined way!
Q. What marketing strategies have your previously used to promote your web design & development services and grow your business?
Mostly just talking to people and word-of-mouth. They’re both powerful strategies, but they don’t work very quickly. Pitching connects a designer with a potential client directly. It’s kind of magic, once you get over the initial fear of it.
Q. What made you decide to try pitching your services?
I knew that I needed to make this my full-time freelancing business (I was tired of working for corporations as a copywriter and wanted to pivot to fully supporting solopreneurs with design + copyediting). Pitching is truly the fastest way to get clients, when it’s done right. So I was ready to jump right in and do it.
I had heard about Charlotte’s Pitching your Web Design & Development Services Guide in a Facebook group of Squarespace designers I'm in, so I decided to give it a go.
Q. How did you find out about Charlotte's Pitching Your Web Design & Development Services Guide?
I first discovered Charlotte through Paige Brunton's Square Secrets Business course, where she was interviewed as a guest expert about different marketing strategies to grow your web design & development business. I loved her vibe immediately and was so happy to hear her talk about successfully getting booked through pitching. I knew I had to reach out to talk with her. Luckily, I happened to connect with her right as she was launching the Pitching your Web Design & Development Services Guide. Talk about serendipitous timing!
Q. What initially held you back from pitching? Fear of rejection? Not sure what to say in the pitch emails? Unclear about the “right” process? Not sure if it would actually work? Hadn’t thought of it as a marketing strategy for your business?
I’d already gotten over the fear of pitching in my past work as a copywriter, so that wasn’t so much an issue. Mostly, when life (and business) is a bit chaotic, it’s hard for me to clear out space in my life to focus on pitching. And, to be honest, it was a lot easier to pitch big, faceless corporations as a copywriter.
I guess I was a bit afraid of pitching people that I actually liked and really wanted to work with.
I knew I needed to do it right and Charlotte’s guidance helped me refine my approach so that I knew I was offering value without the sleaze of corporate selling. I’m a pretty big heart-centered kind of person, so getting it right felt important to me. Charlotte’s templates helped me figure out how to do just that.
Q. How soon after purchasing the “Pitching Your Services guide” did you send out your first pitch emails?
Funny story: I purchased the Pitching Guide right as I was in the middle of a big, cross-country move… so I put it off for a while, to be honest.
But once I felt settled and focused enough to pitch my services and do it right, I got started and took it seriously!
Q. Did you follow the email template exactly or customize it?
I did a little of both. It was already set up brilliantly and effectively. But I changed some of the tone to fit my own voice and to speak directly to my ideal clients.
Q. How did you feel when you sent out those pitch emails? Confident in the process? Open to trying a new marketing strategy? "What the heck, why not?” Nervous about hearing “No” or “Not now” or being ignored entirely? Anticipating rejection? Excited to serve potential clients through your services?
Honestly, I felt pretty confident that the pitch emails I was sending out would work well. I already was familiar with the guidelines for email pitching best practices, so I knew Charlotte’s templates would hit the mark.
I was mostly excited to finally connect with amazing people I was thrilled to work with (and hoping they would feel the same way!).
Q. How did you decide who to pitch to? Research potential clients or drill down on the type of businesses you wanted to work with?
I already had chosen a specific type of client I wanted to work with and they’re a group of people I know really well. I just did some Googling and looking at association-type websites. It’s not to hard to find the right people, especially if you know who you love to work with. The best part of web design is that you can easily see who needs your help, so the pitch feels helpful and valuable.
Q. How did you stay organized during the pitch process?
I did use the spreadsheets included in the Pitch Guide, but I didn’t do so well with the timing. For future pitches, I plan to refine that process a bit better, as I can definitely see the value in it (and the usefulness of the structure for me!).
Q. How soon after sending out your first pitch emails did you book your first client from those pitches?
Funny enough, the very first person I sent an email to ended up booking me to design a new website for her. That’s the mark of a great industry (web design), a valuable offer (something the client truly needs), and a really good pitch!
Q. Was this digital product worth the investment?
Yes, absolutely! Just booking one client pays for the investment many times over!
Q. Would you recommend this digital product to someone interested in pitching their services?
Absolutely! I already shared it with other new designers in an online group. I had tried to explain the way pitching works, as many people were interested in how to do it (and were understandably intimidated).
Once Charlotte came out with her Pitching your Web Design & Development Services Guide, it was the perfect resource to share with these peers, as it includes templates and very clear explanations. So great!
