3 strategic ways to drive traffic from social media to your website

Running a website can often feel like you're juggling about ten different balls in the air trying to keep everything afloat.

There are so many moving parts to having a website that it can sometimes feel like you're always "working" but not always seeing results. For most websites, the goal is to generate traffic and increase sales of a product or service. This goal is quantifiable and possible to achieve...so long as you go about it systematically.

Depending on which "expert" you listen to, they will tell you that to increase traffic to your website you have to do more of one thing. They might tell you to focus your efforts on social media, email marketing, networking at industry events, content creation, etc. All of those strategies are valid but by trying to do everything at once, you'll spread yourself too thin and won't see any results.

Today's article is focused on how to use social media to drive traffic back to your website. The rest of the topics listed above? Those are for another day, my friend.

Be sure to grab my FREE checklist on how to drive traffic from social media to your website!

Expert Roundup : advice on writing your website's About page

If there's one standard page that EVERY website has and needs, it's the About page. No matter what industry you're in or how big/small your business is, the About page is pretty much mandatory.

It's also one of the hardest and sometimes confusing pages to pull together.

I can't tell you how many times I've had a client or someone on my newsletter ask me how to create an About page and what should be included. Honestly, I'd say I get this type of question a few times a month... how crazy is that?!

The good news is that creating and writing an effective About page isn't rocket science. It does, however, take some intention and it'll force you to put yourself in your clients' shoes.

I've reached out to my friends and fellow online entrepreneurs to share their thoughts and recommendations on writing the best About page for your business. Their tips and tricks are below and I know you'll get a lot out of their pointers!

Also, I really wanted to make sure that this article is not only helpful but that it's also actionable. As such, I've also created a FREE guide on the Do's and Don't's of writing an About page.

Does every website need a privacy policy?

Alright alright alright, today we are going to dive into one of the most boring pages of any website ... the Privacy Policy!

Yes, my friends, this page may be dull but it's hugely important and usually forgotten and/or ignored. Don't be one of those people who doesn't include a Privacy Policy and has to pay for it later (often literally!).

In this article, we are going to look at what a Privacy Policy is, what should be included, who needs one, and how to create your own Privacy Policy.

Whether you're getting ready to launch your first website or if you already have a website but it doesn't have a Privacy Policy, I'm certain you'll learn a thing or two about protecting yourself and your business!

Note: It goes without saying that I'm a web designer/developer and NOT a lawyer so please consult a professional for the best advice. I can only speak to what I know is industry standard but if you have any questions or concerns, always consult a professional.

Understanding the .com bias and what it means for your small business

My friends, did you know that we're currently living in the year 2016? And remember back in January when we were all making jokes about "sweet '16, don't be mean"? Considering how brutal this year has been, it's safe to say that many of us wish we could erase it from memory. But we can't. We're still here.

And at this point, did you know that the internet has bee around for....several decades?! About thirty years, in fact! That's a long time - even older than me and I'm basically geriatric.

On the grand & glorious world wide web today, there are over 1 BILLION websites. 1 billion! That number is insane and totally cool. There really is a place for everyone online.

However, the numbers don't lie - although most websites were/are built on the .com top-level domain (TLD), there simply aren't enough possibilities for every single website to be build on it. Eventually, we will run out of .com options and everything will have been purchased already.

With that came the invention of other TLD options. If you're even a moderate web browser (which I assume you are, you savvy thing), you've probably come across them before : .ca, .net, .org, .co., .xyz, etc.

So now that we've established that while many websites end in .com, not all websites have to. That's good news - right?! Well, hold on a minute.

As much as it pains me to admit it, we need to have an honest discussion about the .com bias and what it means for you - and your business.

Choosing a domain for your business is one of the most important steps of starting a website so it's important to have as much information as you can in order to make the right decision for you.
