Why are backlinks / inbound links important?
I’ve written a blog post that does a deep dive into the benefits of backlinks for Squarespace SEO so if you haven’t already checked that out, please do that now and then come back here and continue on!
Long story short, backlinks are beneficial for Squarespace SEO because:
They send referral traffic to your website
Put you in front of other relevent audiences online
Signify to search engines (like Google) that your website is legit, has authority and is high quality content
Indicates that your website has enough value to be considered to show up favourably in online searches
Backlinks are solid gold on the Squarespace SEO front and now that you understand WHY they are so important, coveted and valuable, the next obvious question is…. how do I know if I have any?
My friend, I’m here to show you how to check this out for yourself!

Acquisition section - look at Referral section (this is where you’ll see all/any links from other websites that are referring traffic to you website AKA backlinks)
Reminder that this video tutorial uses a demo website and since it’s not a live site, there’s no info/data to display… I just wanted to show you HOW to see it and you can check it out on your own Squarespace site!

Paid SEO tools provide similar but more detailed information
This quick tutorial (using Squarespace’s built in Analytics) shows you the basic info that you’re looking for but obviously if you want to see much more detailed information about any backlinks you might have, then it could be worth investing in paid SEO tools. SEM Rush and Moz are the most popular options.
Paid SEO tools are not required, especially if you’re just starting out, but worth mentioning nonetheless!
